George Lashwood in drag performing a song about two lovers at twilight. Photographic postcard, 190-.
In the twi-twi-twilight. Chorus, In the twi-twi-twilight, Out in the beautiful twilight ... At each other they rush with a beautiful blush, In the twi-twilight. By arrangement with Chas. Wilmott, Hermann E. Darewski, George Lashwood and Francis Day & Hunter. Peerless Shamrock Tone, Real Photograph
Popular music-hall songs were often publicised on postcards which featured the lyrics with some illustration, either artist drawn or photographic. This unusual card presents a combination of both, with additional comedy added by using photomontage to make one of the lovers a pantomime Dame. This song was a major commercial success for George Lashwood (1863-1942)
Part of James Gardiner Collection: photograph album labelled ‘Drag’.
