Digital Transgender Archive
Ty Yule identifies as a trans man or trans person assigned female at birth. He started transitioning 4 years ago at the time of the interview at age 41. He was born in Minnesota, then moved to Iowa when he was 2. He was teased a lot for his large size in school. He was somewhat of a jock and athlete and also a weirdo, he explains. He attempted suicide after which he was put in an inpatient facility for two and a half months. At 16, he started going to bars and went to a gay bar in San Bernardino Riverside where he discovered he could date feminine women who were attracted to his butchness. He cut his hair and started dressing differently. He hasn’t had any gender related surgeries. He opened a dyke bar in 2006 in South Minneapolis called Pie.
