This article details the life and history of Charlotte Cushman and her circle of friends, many of whom were lesbians and engaged in crossdressing. There are several small typos in the article; Cushman was born in 1816, not 1916, and she moved to Rome, not Rose. Originally published on page 10 and 11 of volume 12, number 13 of Gay Community News.
