Digital Transgender Archive

The Brandon Teena Collection gathers materials related to Brandon Teena. Brandon presented as masculine in ways unsettling to the members of the communities he traveled through. He, along with Phillip DeVine and Lisa Lambert, were killed, victims of violent hate crimes. These deaths inspired numerous activist initiatives, and artistic works including the feature film "Boys Don't Cry." The items in this collection may contain graphic descriptions of transphobic violence and sexual assault, and might further reflect the cruel attitudes of the media at the time.
